The Great Blind Tasting of Iasi

There is one week left until the annual blind wine tasting competition, the Great Tasting of Iasi. The fourth edition promises delicious novelties for the complex taste buds of the participants, but also new opportunities for them. Competitors who want to win all the prizes in 2023 can participate in both the team stage and the individual stage. The two stages of the contest are scheduled for April 27 and 28. On the first day, the teams will be hosted by Cramele Cotnari, and on the second day, the individual competitors will fight for the grand prize at the Pleiada Restaurant.

The "Olympiad of good taste" will submit 12 wines to analysis, both for the team competition and for the individual one, and the tie-breaking will be decided by points. Out of the 12 wines (5 white wines, 5 red wines, 1 sparkling wine and 1 rose), 10 are Romanian and two are of international origin, but the organizers are convinced that each one will pose a challenge even to the most skilled sommeliers.

Sommeliers (active or not), holders of any diploma (OSR, ASR, Sergiu Nedelea – Wine Taste School, WSET, independent, unauthorized, EU, etc.), people with winemaking or oenological studies and there is no number can participate in the competition, and there is no limit to the number of participants. Each team will consist of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 people.

The two "culprits" of the whole concept are Daniel Vranescu – Contest President and Daniel Hidarli – Contest Director. The performances of the participants will be evaluated by a jury consisting of Sergiu Nedelea (president), together with Nicolae David, Mihai Druta, Marius Zanoaga, Mihai Focea, Robert Axinte, Bogdan Dumitrescu, George Malutan, Ana Crudu, Traian Petrea and Ionut Vranescu.

The prizes are interesting, so that in the team contest, the winners of the first place will receive wines worth 2023 euros, the second place – wines worth 2023 RON, and the third place – wines worth 1023 RON.
For the Individual Contest, the prizes are not any lower – wines worth 1023 euros for the first prize, wines worth 1023 Ron for the second prize and wines worth 123 euros for the third prize.
